A Little About Me

I'm originally from Nottingham and Derby and moved to Manchester in 2003. Originally working in engineering with Rolls-Royce Aerospace, I've steered my career towards business improvement and IT development in more recent years, but have very recently left Salford City Council where I last practiced my trade in search of pastures new.

My main passion is cycling which I've been involved with since my University days at Leeds in the late 80s. After a tour round Turkey on the bike in 1988, I joined Derby Mercury Road club when I started work, did a bit of road racing in 1991 managing a 1^st and 2^nd place in local amateur races in my first season (of which I'm very proud). Since those days I've mainly enjoyed training and club riding and cycle touring in Europe (mainly UK, Spain and Portugal). I now ride with Saddleworth Clarion Cycling Club (and for the time being at least, I'm our club hill climb champion). I also enjoy mountain biking with Stockport Clarion and chums on our now regular twice yearly excursions to our beautiful national parks in the UK. More recently my competitive leaning has led me astray into fell racing at which I seem to compete reasonably well (must be my slender build). Whilst mainly entering shorter races the high point of my fell racing endeavours to date was 67^th (from 800) in the classic Yorkshire 3 Peaks Fell Race in 2010, achieving that in a time of 3 hours 48 mins.

I've also dabbled in mountain marathons and cross country skiing in recent years, and have enjoyed sailing, which culminated in crewing for good friends in their epic Atlantic circuit (ARC race) starting in 2010 notably legs between Southampton and Porto across the Bay of Biscay and sailing from Madeira to the Canaries (the sense of adventure is never far away on the high seas).

PACT13 is an epic tour and will be an experience like no other, no doubt shaping all our lives moving forward. I look forward to significant personal gain all of which ties in beautifully with having left work recently in my quest for new opportunities! Oh did I mention I've always wanted to visit South America and North America's west coast? Also with a passion for environmental issues the opportunity to pursue this personal challenge with an overarching purpose in support of TSF's aims is a real bonus. Is this all a dream come true?!
